cant deselect polygons or vertices with keyboard layout

Hi. I am using all my ALT SHIFT and CTRL buttons for navigating and selecting objects in the preview pane and cant seem to find a way to assign other key combinations for deselection of polygons or vertices. Here is my current mouse setup (im using a K400 logitech keyboard with trackpad):

How can I reassign something like SHIFT + CTRL as a modifier for deselection of polys and verts?

For de-selection of anything in the scene at either the object or the sub-object level, Ctrl + D is the default hotkey combo and should work for you unless you have changed or removed this default hotkey combo. Easy way to check is the Edit Menu where the hotkey for "Select None" should be displayed.

Edit: Sorry, I realize that only works for deselecting everything and you are talking about just deselcting individual subjects. Don't know why you cannot find a free hotkey combo that works.

I was able to allow ALT to be used as deselect by changing Pan View from Alt+LMB to CTRL+SHIFT+LMB:
