3ds Max 2021.3 Crashes when Load Preset render

Opening a new scene. Load Preset for render, the program completely crashes!

Projects created in 3ds Max 2021.2 Load Preset works well for the fresh version.

This affects all render engines, not just VRay.

"Compress files on save" I have this mode disabled, it does not help

Thanks for the file. I reproduced the crash as described. We'll see why it crashes and try to find a solution.

I was able to load it only after I loaded another preset already present in the list. Would you mind to try the same?

When you open the dropdown menu, can you try to load one already in the list? Then, if loaded correctly, try to load the crashing one. Please try a few, until you find one that loads.

I only found one solution:

I open a new clean scene 3ds Max, save the scene and close the scene.

Load the saved file and I can load any Preset.

The problem is creating a new scene, I can't do anything with the Preset.

Hi @mounker654,

When 3ds Max crashes, is it allowing you to submit a customer error report (CER) with your email address? If so, can you please submit those to us, then send me your email address or CER number via private message so i can look them up in our database? That will help us identify the exact module in which 3ds Max is crashing. Thanks!

Thanks for your comments on this. I wanted to note that we have a logged defect for this issue designated as MAXX-61154 (for future reference) and this is a top priority for fixing.

I'm collating the current workarounds and will incorporate those into a public-facing AKN article as soon as I can, and will post that link here when done. Thanks!

I just wanted to note that this issue is being worked on for a future update, and we can let you know when that fix is released.

In the meantime, if you delete your current presets, create new ones in Max 2021 and then re-save those, that should be a viable workaround until this problem is fixed. Please let us know if this helps, and thanks for your patience on this!

I also have this problem and try to solve it by creating a new preset in 3ds Max 2021.3, open a new scene and applying the new preset and it still continue crashing. Hope you solve this in the future

Because of this problem, I have reinstalled my WIN10 and all plug-in renderers countless times. I seem to get inspiration from my colleague. The low version CR and VR5.1 exist at the same time (without any problems), CR7.0 (2021 Daily build) and Vr5.1 exist (there will be a crash), create a maxstart.max in C:\Users\your username\Documents\3ds Max 2021\scenes and you will get a 2021.3update that perfectly fixes the BUG

The latest version of Vray no longer has problems with presets, they solved them. The problem wasn't 3ds Max.

Thanks for your reply, it seems to me that this is a compatibility issue between 3 softwares, it seems to be unable to explain CR6.0 HotFix2 and Vray5.1000, it did not crash, while I upgraded CR7.0 and Vray5.1002, it is the same situation as yours, the solution is just to create a new boot Max

When you have the crash submit the error report code here so an Autodesk employer can check it for you.
