I'm looking for the old legacy materials and the new arnold materials. Search produced ansers from 2016 and older which didn't help. Here's a screenshot of what I got:

Thanks in advance;)

Today I installed MAXtoA-4.3.3.21-2022 from the Arnold website. I see some of the materials in material browser but most of them are not showing in the thumbnail except for the nature.mat materials. I went to Check the "Legacy 3ds Max Map support" box but couldn't see it in the 2022 version of MAX. Even though I put the path to the Map folder, it still doesn't show thumbnails except for nature.mat.

Yes I did find that and tried it with no joy. I really think Autodesk should get behind this and make it less of a pain ... it makes the software almost useless. I see that you have MAXtoA version 5.0.0.11 ... I downloaded 4.3.3.21-2022 which was stated was the latest for max2022. I'm wondering whether that makes a difference?

You've probably found this already:

<HDD>:\Program Files\Autodesk\3ds Max 2022\materiallibraries.

Then, here in the Support/Downloads section: search for 2021 (not 2022) Downloads.
There you will find a collection of legacy sample scenes and materials as an 1.7GB .exe file.

Please note that some of the material libraries only show up when using the ART renderer.

Thanks for the great advice;) I got the files which seems to have all the materials and maps I need. Now I need it to populate my material browser. I'm able to get some of the materials to show up using the configure project paths but those do not remain when I start a new project. How do I get the system to find the materials and open up for all future projects?
