I do not want to offend anyone but I am asking for help. I model for a very old simulator and the last complier that was made for it was for version 4.2 ( I know very old). My version of max 4.2 is a bit unstable and well would like to know if it is possible to find this version 4.2. I would purchase it and adhere to all requirements, just would like another copy of the software as a backup and to install on other machines. Silly I have windows XP running on a SSD since 4.2 seems to work well and I have not been able to install it on any other version of windows successfully. I know this is silly to some of you but I have this hobby and well 4.2 offers a lot over gmax as far as tools etc. Be nice.

@tedkaniuka

Sorry to be bearer of bad news, but the answer is no. You cannot buy a copy of any version of max as a perpetual license. They are now only offering a subscription which means it must be paid annually and if you were to subscribe now you would be able to download and use Max 2019 through Max 2022. I doubt these versions would run on XP, particularly if you have the 32 bit version.

You mentioned you are a hobbiest, so maybe check out an old version of Blender that can run on Windows XP. It's free and might get the job done for you.

Sorry for the bad news.
