topic is there a work around for having materials expanded in slate material editor? in 3ds Max Forum

hi, like the title says, so when i pick a material (say a multi-sub) it will load up in the slate material editor and all the materials will be expanded, you know like diffuse map, reflection map, displacement map, bump map, refract map, translucency map, ior map, pretty much everything will be displayed.

i know i can go in before i select any materials from the scene, or dragging and dropping a new material from the browser into the view and un-check View > Auto open node slots and then all the materials are collapsed.

but is there a way to default so it doesn't expand them all, it's un-checked by default?

what was the reason behind this - maybe i'm missing something and not understanding why auto open node slots on by default? it's just that for me, it's extra steps to turn it off and to remember to turn it off. for example on a high detailed car material with many sub-materials (20!) and then ALL those materials are fully expanded.

thanks!

Hi,

I've had a look and didn't find anything.
In the slate material editor what I usually do is [CRTL]+A then press 'H', and then 'L'
It's fairly quick that way to get a good condensed view, you can do it with your left hand pretty quickly.
