how to convert a .max file to fbx without 3dsMax?

Hi, Is there a way to convert a .max file to FBX? I have tried multiple solutions, also the FBX converter from Autodesk, but none of them seems to work with that file extension. My file is too big to be converted from online converters. I am a mac user so I cannot download 3dsMax on my machine. Can someone help me with this issue? Thank you. Cristiana

You can't. You have to find one who either has 3ds Max installed or can/will install the 3ds Max trial or similar.

An alternative would be posting the file here ( if you are allowed to post it publically ) and ask someone from the community to convert it for you.. I would gladly do that ( but i'm out of town till thursday evening )...

Okay - you should have received a personal message with a link for the FBX download

the fbx doesnt contain the animation though, as this would require baking it for each frame , and that would cause insane file sizes

UPDATE: i sent you a second wetransfer link with the fbx including the baked animation ( using a pointcache file )

please note that this one contains a reduced geometry of the tentacle only

Hi spacefrog, I do not have 3ds max 2022 to open a 2022 3ds file and I need someone to convert it to a lower version for me. Perhaps it's my lucky day and you have the 2022 application. It's a small file , 7 MB that I'm attaching just in case. Thank you for any help or suggestion you can provide.

It may be missing some non-supported stuff on FBX.
