Anyone have this issue with smart extrude? 2023

We upgraded to 2023 and I haven't seen this issue before with smart extrude.

I have tried resetting xform several times. What's even more bizarre is that I can not even undo this. I have to reload the scene.

The cube in the lower left I used as a test just to see if smart extrude was working fine with other objects. It is.

Have any of you experienced this?

Thanks for sharing this with us.

That indeed appears odd.

In order to help you the best way possible I would recommend showing a comparison of the same object in a different version of 3ds Max where the operation works.

Looks like an issue with the topology of the object.

Cannot be sure without having access to the object directly. Or you could try to provide screenshots where all the edges are visible.

I would select all the verts and weld with a low threshold (.01 or .001, depending on the scale of your objects) since it appears you may have duplicate verts that are not moved by smart extrude. Just a guess.

Here is a screen shot of a before and after of it working perfectly fine in 2022. Only having this issue in 2023.

Good suggestion but unfortunately seems to be a problem with 2023 specifically. Works fine in 2022.

While I have you on the weld threshold. Is there any way to set it's default to .001?

I'm assuming this is done in an ini file someplace. I haven't found an option inside of max itself.

Yes you can set the default weld threshold for Editable Poly and Edit Poly and vertex weld modifier, etc and a whole lot of other parameters with the DefaultParamInterface exposed in maxscript in Max 2021.1. But Changsoo Eun made an easy to use script that makes the process simple. Below is a screenshot of his CustomDefaultParamManager script in which I set the weld threshold to .001 for the Edit Poly modifier.

This has been around for a while, but I don't think it is widely known. In fact your question prompted my memory about it so I could track it down. Note you will need to set the threshold for each Baseobject/modifier separately (Editable Poly, Edit Poly, Vertex Weld, etc,). Then the next time you start max, the new weld threshold will be in place.
