Hi Matthias, the same issue! SceneCleaner_Startup script stopped working after I moved from 3ds max 2023 to 2024 version.

Would appreciate a lot if Autodesk could update this script to a newer version!

Since we use the autodesk scenecleaner script (yes, wonderfull, drastically speeding up our scenes!!!) the findandbind script (light linking to hdri) doesn´t work anymore .... does anybody know how to fix that? are there more script problems we migt run in with the scenecleaner script? is there another way to get rid of the "animated layers"? Anybody using the cleaner script instead on scriptspot?

Any suggestions welcome! Matthias

Hi, sounds like maybe the Autodesk Scenecleaner conversion script has maybe converted your vRay HRDI material? The binding to the sun highlight point might break if it did that.
The Corona Render converter has caught me out before. I was a using vRayHDRI and it converted it to a simple bitmap instead. Until I found the checkbox that stopped it doing that.
What render engine are you using, and what's the reason for needing to use the Autodesk in-house scene converter? I never use it myself. There were suposed to be a big list of presets getting built for it, but it still seems purely Arnold Render orientated now, so me using Corona and vRay I don't go near it. It scares me.

I use this scene cleaner regularly on scenes with mixed elements that are no longer required. It's pretty good. Is this the one you tried too from Scriptspot? https://www.scriptspot.com/3ds-max/scripts/cleaner

*(Be careful of removing 'Link Composites'. That should come with a warning. If your 3DSMax scene is linked to a Revit, SketchUp or Lumion Live link that can really mess stuff up. It's essentially deleting all XREFs from the scene).

I also use the 3DSMax Asset Tracking window, and remove /paths/remove missing assets. That takes a software restart sometimes to show how much unrequired stuff is removed from the scene. It's pretty good though ([Shift]+[T]) in Max.

Another tip I'd say is, if you're using the SME (Slate Material Editor)... switch over to the CME (Compact Material Editor) for a few minutes and look in Utilities Tab. You can reset material editor, and condense Multimaps. Also, back in the SME, delete any unused SME material pages. Max has to load these up, even if the materials have been already deleted from the scene.

Ideally 3DSMax should do this on its own. It's lacking a good all-in-one scene cleaner, which they could easily build themselves. Hopefully one will come soon.

https://forums.autodesk.com/t5/3ds-max-ideas/3d-max-heavy-files-purge/idi-p/7049422

🙂

Regards,

I think the correction of single line of code in this script should resorve the issue
