Hi,

in that case, I think that the best option are link both throug wired parameters, not as linked objects.

would it fit you?

Hi

I am working in 3DsMax 2017 and modelling a car. At the moment I am working on a small rigging system which allows me to open the hood/bonnet of the car. I have a hood/bonnet, a hinge and a torus object (which would act as the controller for the rotation). When I rotate the torus, I want the hood/bonnet to open and the hinge to rotate. However, I need the hinge and bonnet/hood to rotate on their own axis (not inherit the rotation of the parent) because the hinge would move out of place. I am not even sure if this is possible but if it isn't maybe someone knows a work around for this? Thank you all for your help!

I am not sure I fully follow your goal as I would think you would want the hood to be affected by the parent (the chassis) of the car.

Perhaps this video, although of a different task, will give you an idea of making the action of the hood independent of the car via linking the objects to a common reference object.

https://youtu.be/zDWGOCK_EcE
