I created a model in Simulation Mechanical environment, not in cad. How do I assign a AISC shape to a beam element? Thanks.

Hi TZ,

First, define the element type for the part to be Beam.

Next, edit the Element Definition. This will display a list of all of the layer numbers for the lines in the part. Each layer can have different cross-sectional properties.

Click in any of the cells in the row for which you want to set the properties. When you do this, the "Cross-Section Libraries" button will become active. Click the cross-section button, and you'll be able to select the AISC library and specific shape. (This is also how you can have the software calculate the cross-sectional properties for basic shapes based on known dimensions.)
