When I use the variable cross section wizard to define a tapered W-Shape it always calculates the 'B' end as having zero depth.

I only noticed this after turning on 3D-Visualization in the results. Is this feature unreliable? Should I be calculating the section properties manually?

Support just confirmed my concerns.

Variable Cross Section Wizard does not work with wide flange inputs.

Hi Andrew,

This has been fixed and released. Use the "Autodesk Desktop App" to install the "Simulation Mechanical 2018.1 Update".

These are the changes listed in the complete readme file. (I have added a few clarifications to the explanations.)

Analysis Failed with part number above 999. (I think this started with version 2017. The analysis can now handle part numbers greater than 999.)

Frequency shown incorrectly in DDAM results. (The annotation label in the Results environment was not reading the natural frequency properly. Instead of showing the frequency as 534 Hz, it was displayed as 5.34 Hz.)

Editor doesn’t launch from SimMECH (The Nastran Editor was not starting properly when using the Nastran solver for the analysis.)

Shows wrong variable cross-section wizard for wide flange beam. (As Andrew pointed out, the problem was that the wide flange beam tapered to 0. This has been fixed.)

Any chance we will see an update for 2017?

We don't have plans on upgrading to 2018 due to the loss of sim studio.
