Hi!

Thank you for your reply. I have checked all the files and path and tested again but it still doesn't work. The only non-latin characters file is the one of result data (Filename.ds_data) created by software itself...

It's really a strange problem. The result file including stiffness matrix (*.mtx) is also not generated with modal analysis. So I have to run static stress anylysis first and then copy the file to modal analysis folder...

Thank you anyway.

Hi @Anonymous,

How long is the path to the analysis file? Are the files located on a network drive?

One thing to try if the path is kind of long or if it's on a network drive is to move all the files to a temporary directory like C:\ADSKTEMP and try running them from there.

Hi yisongchen,

In your first message, you write "I have successfully run the simulation with Linear-Natural Frequency". Then in a later message, you write "The result file including stiffness matrix (*.mtx) is also not generated with modal analysis". These two statements are completely opposite. If the natural frequency analysis ran successfully, you would have all of the results files.

So which is it? Did the natural frequency analysis run and give you results or not? There are no result files from a linear static analysis that you could copy to the natural frequency design folder that would then make the frequency response analysis run!

The files that are produced by the natural frequency analysis that are used by the frequency response analysis are the files .s7, .s8, .s9, and .s12. Do these files exist in the design scenario folder for the natural frequency analysis? If not, did you uncheck the box under the Analysis Parameters that says to not save the restart files? (See a complete list of file extensions on the page File Extensions in the Help.)

Note that there is a bug that is preventing the matrix file, .MTX, from being created. But this has nothing to do with your problem.

Regarding the length of the folder path where your model is stored, you can see the complete name of the model that is being analyzed (which could be different than the model you created!) by viewing the log file (ds.lgm for linear natural frequency). The 10th line of the file gives the model name, like this:

INPUT MODEL: D:\Sim Mech\QA Tools\Sim Mech volume change\test models\2017 all analysis types.ds_data\2\ds

Thank you for your reply.

Actually I did notice the bug that the Matrix file .MTX is not created. The natural frequency analysis was successfully run but without result files (stiffness matrix) as output even I had selected to save the result files And to solve this problem, I took the suggestion from

http://forums.autodesk.com/t5/simulation-mechanical-forums/stiffness-matrix-for-frequency-analysis/m-p/3216224/highlight/true#M2636

to get a .MTX file from linear stress Analysis.

But anyway, as you said, there's nothing to do with my problem of frequency response.

And I checked the log file, the model name being analysed is correct. And these lines are in the log file:

****OPENING TEMPORARY FILES

NDYN = -5

COPY:\.....\.....\Naturalfrequency\ds.s7 to \.....\.....\Frequencyresponse\ds.t7

COPY:\.....\.....\Naturalfrequency\ds.s8 to \.....\.....\Frequencyresponse\ds.t8

COPY:\.....\.....\Naturalfrequency\ds.s9 to \.....\.....\Frequencyresponse\ds.t9

COPY:\.....\.....\Naturalfrequency\ds.s12 to \.....\.....\Frequencyresponse\ds.t12

And I can also find these files in .s7, .s8, .s9, .s12 in the right folder. So I don't know what's going wrong... Maybe I work on a nerwork driver?

Re: Linear frequency response error - dynamic modal analysis processor?!

Hi yisongchen,

I should have been more clear in my previous post. I was hoping to get the "input model" line of text from the natural frequency log file (DS.LGM) because I was hoping that it would show the complete path to the model. This is related to Andrew's suggestion about trying the analysis when the model is in a shorter path. By showing us the complete path and name of the model, we would know if there arespecial characters in the folder name that might be causing a problem.

The lines you show are from the frequency response log file. Are those the actual lines of text, or did you change them for the post? They are not what I expect the software to show. So if the lines you put in your reply are exactly as they appear in the log file, how are you using the software? And what version of the software are you using?

If you have not tried Andrew's suggestion, please do that.

Create a simple folder under the C:\ root drive (or D:\ drive if your computer has a second drive). Do not create the folder on the desktop or any other location.

Open the model with Simulation Mechanical and save it to the simple folder.

Just to be safe, re-run the modal analysis.

Then run the frequency response analysis.

If the frequency response analysis fails, then do this:

Use Windows Explorer/Computer to view the simple folder, then go into the "modelname.ds_data\X" folder where X is the number of the natural frequency design scenario.

rename the file DS.LGM to "DS-modal.txt". (If your Windows Explorer is not set to show the extension by default, then google how to display the extension of file based on your version of Windows.)

Go into the folder "modelname.ds_data\Y" where Y is the number of the frequency response analysis design scenario.

Rename the file DS.LG5 to "DS-response.txt".

Attach both .txt files to your post.

Hi @Anonymous,

It was great to speak with you this afternoon! After further research I've found that Simulation Mechanical is not on the list of products that supports Citrix. This is the most likely cause of this problem on with your model. You can find a list of all Autodesk products that are officially support on the Citrix website. I'd recommend to your IT team that you get a machine that has Simulation Mechanical installed locally.

Best Regards,
