I wonder if anyone has done a study of the likelihood of a problem having a better chance of being solved early in the morning or just after lunch. I was dealing with a problem in road design late yesterday. I finally left it for the morning. Soon after starting the drawing this morning the answer seemed obvious. Just before lunch today I was having trouble with labels displaying. When I went back at it after lunch. I solved it almost immediately.

Maybe I just need to sleep more and eat more!

There's an entire field of investigation, actually.

The phenomenon involves a diurnal mental cycle involving a peak, a lull, and a rebound. Morning people experience their peak in the morning, the lull after lunch, and the rebound into the evening hours. Night owls have the peak and rebound switched.

From a guy who wrote a book about it: "I do everything possible NOT to book visits to medical facilities in the afternoon."

lol sounds like wise words on the medical visits. 😄

From that description, I think I sound like a classic morning person. I get pretty useless midday. Now that I work from home, instead of forcing myself through when my brain won't work, I'll take a long lunch. Fix something around the house, or go out to eat. It's definitely better when I've stepped away for awhile. Wish I would've been able to do that in my last two jobs.

Being a Type II diabetic. I think It's probably a blood sugar thing. I'm in the process of getting an new Dr. The one I've had for the past 2 years just closed his office. I'v been with him for 2 years because my previous Dr. of 30 years closed his office. It's getting difficult to find an independent Dr. around here. I'm trying not to be forded into the big-box-store version of medical care.

I'd think around 20 years. 1996 pops into my memory. I'm still on pills. Metphormin, Repaglinide and Invokana. But it's a struggle to keep the #s down. As I mentioned. I'm starting with a new Dr. next month. He may change things around.

What are you injecting had how is it working for you?

Murph,

Yeah. Insurance coverage is always an issue. My insurance wouldn't cover 1000mg Metformin but will cover 2 500mg.

I'm lucky. There is a Deli near where I work that specializes in low carb items.Break with 1 net carb per slice and rolls with 6 net carbs. Only kind of baked goods I can eat now. They do ship. http://zambettis.com/

A few weeks ago I heard a piece on NPR's "All Things Considered" about a new book called "When: The Scientific Secrets of Perfect Timing" and one of the things they talked about in the broadcast was breaking out your day into different types of tasks depending on the time of day. I found it really interesting. https://www.npr.org/2018/01/17/578666036/daniel-pinks-when-shows-the-importance-of-timing-throughout-life

I have found that just stepping away makes a difference for me.... but usually when i come back to things its either the next morning or after a good lunch break haha...

I used to try to break thought patterns by intentionally using the 'other' side of the brain. i would practice changing the spinning silhouette direction. I got ok at changing direction, but i think the most i got out of this exercise was a neat parlor trick that only i can see... Though it did on occasion get me far enough away from the problem to make a little headway; it has been incorrectly called the rigth brain left brain test... all that time wasted just cause the internets lied to me.

Yeah get up and walk around, go get a drink, or have a chat with someone, anything to break your train of thought, I keep a pen and paper at the side of the bed, I find the solution to a problem I've been looking at will often spring into mind at 2 in the morning, so I can just jot it down and go straight back to sleep, or it will be there when I wake up.

Yeah. I do most of that except the paper by the bed. My ideas usually come while in the shower. I can hold on to them until I get to work. Usually use the commute to refine the idea so I'm ready to go when I get there. Of course those are the days that someone grabs me with an emergency and I don't get back to that job for 3 days.
