Hey there, don't know if it is a right place to post here.
I want to make a gaming montage video, but don't know what editing software should I use. One of my friends recommend me Premiere and AceMovi Video Editor, but I still want more choices. Do you have any other recommendation? All the replies will be appreciated!

Hi @Anonymous,

It really depends on what your budget is and the tools you need.

Adobe is industry standard these days, with Premiere Pro being a monthly subscription and Premiere Elements being a lifetime license.

There are free and cheaper editors like Movie Maker but they tend to have more limitations or quirks.

As it was mentioned before, it depends on your needs and budget. I prefer Adobe video editing software as it covers everything I need and is the industry standard. Another one I would recommend is DaVinci Resolve. It has a free version which perfectly suits more advanced projects.

At least some time ago, everyone used Sony Vegas. If more professional level - Adobe After Effects. There are a lot of free editors, but trust me - it's better to understand the ones above. It's also popular now to edit videos from your phone. People even use chromakey to the fullest extent on the phone.

Hey! If you're making a gaming montage, definitely check out CapCut—it’s super beginner-friendly but also powerful enough for cool effects, transitions, and syncing clips to music. It even supports keyframe animation and motion blur now. Plus, it’s free and doesn’t slap a watermark if you export right. Worth a try before jumping into the heavier editors!

Good question! Premiere and AceMovi are both solid, but they can feel a bit overwhelming for beginners. If you’re looking for something simpler yet effective, InShot Pro is a great option since it makes editing gaming montages easier with quick cuts, smooth effects, and music syncing without much hassle.

If you’re looking for more options beyond Premiere Pro and AceMovi, there’s actually a wide range of capable video editing software out there that can fit different styles of editing, skill levels, and budgets.

For powerful, professional‑grade editing without subscription costs, DaVinci Resolve is one of the most recommended alternatives — it combines editing, color grading, audio mixing, and visual effects in one platform, and its free version is robust enough for high‑quality montage work.

If you want something more approachable with a gentler learning curve:

Filmora — beginner‑friendly with lots of built‑in effects and transitions.

Movavi — clean, intuitive interface that’s easy to pick up for montage or gameplay edits.

Shotcut and OpenShot — free, open‑source editors that handle multi‑track editing without cost.

CapCut or Clipchamp — lighter, template‑based editors that work well for social content and rapid edits.

For Mac users, Final Cut Pro is a strong premium choice with industry‑level performance and optimized workflow.

And if you’re into more advanced effects and motion graphics down the line, tools like HitFilm Express or combining your edits with an effects app can be worth exploring too.
