When using the surfacing function on a single surface. The endmill frequently retracts and starts on another area of the surface. This means it will surface mill a section then move over and drill with the endmill which is not OK with harder materials. How do I mill a continuous surface?

Thanks in advance

Hi @Anonymous,

Welcome to Autodesk Community!

I don't know the strategy you are using to machine a single surface, but with surface milling you can use different types of lead in/lead out in finish leads tab. Refer the screencast link: http://screencast.com/t/xrorqJFpMOlx

Also in finish attributes, you can set its cut direction to 'Bi-directional' to get a continuous toolpath.

Can you please try with them and let us know the results? If this is not helping, can you please send us a fm file?

Thank you

I have another problem here. The forum will not accept .fm extension attachments. This is the message.-Vaughan

Correct the highlighted errors and try again.

The file 4220-8006A.fm does not have a valid extension for an attachment and has been removed. art,3dp,3ds,ach,asx,avi,axm,bm,bmp,cfz,chm,cps,csv,dbf,dcl,doc,docx,dst,dwf,dwfx,dwg,dws,dwt,dxf,dyf,dyn,eco,env,esri,f3d,f3z,fbx,gif,gz,gzip,iam,ics,ide,idw,iks,ipn,ipt,jfif,jpe,jpeg,jpg,log,lsp,mac,max,mb,mp4,mpg,msg,nc,nc1,nwc,nwd,nwf,obk,pat,pc3,pdf,pkt,png,png,ppt,pptx,prj,psd,rar,rfa,rft,rlf,rtd,rvt,sat,sdf,sdf,sdf2,sdf3,shp,shx,simstudio,sldasm,slddrw,sldprt,step,stm,stp,svf,svg,text,tif,tiff,txt,vcf,vtf,vtfx,wmv,xls,xlsx,xml,xps,zip are the valid extensions.

It means that the forum server does not accept the .FM extension as a valid or allowed file.

Simple cheat is to add something that is valid, for example .zip.

So, before you upload the file, rename it as:

Before: UPLOADFILE.FM

After: UPLOADFILE.FM.ZIP

At least that is how it worked back in the old Delcam board, should be OK here as well.

Hi @Anonymous,

Thanks for keeping patience.

According to help, 3d spiral is best suited to machining areas that require a constant stepover and works well on near-horizontal surfaces. I have created a toolpath with Z-level and Isoline strategy to machine vertical surfaces with continuous spiral.

Please find the attached fm file for your reference and do let me know if you have any additional queries.

Thank you,
