Hello,

I have searched the help files, forum and interweb but I cannot find any information about locking toolpath. I was in the hidden menu and saw the option but I have no clue as to how it works or if it works. Would like to cut down on the time it takes to simulate by locking operations that are already good. I know about "Use results as starting point" but every restart requires me to rerun up to that starting point so I can "Use results as starting point". Any tricks would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

The feature seems to work.

Don't really know if it will reduce the simulation time, but it should.

Once you lock a feature, you can only re-order it, change tool numbers or the name of the feature.

Any other change will require you to answer a question:

1: Cancel changes

2: Unlock the feature and accept the changes

3: Accept the changes but leave the feature locked with the new changes

So, one would guess that if you don't change anything meaningful in the toolpath, it should not re-calculate.

Feel free to test on your own, it appears to be safe to use despite the warning.

OP, as I understand it, you are looking for a way to start a simulation from a certain point without having to run known good toolpaths just to get the simulation results.

What I usually do in that case (I do it rarely, because it's not a very streamlined process and unless the good toolpaths take a really long time to simulate it's usually not worth the effort) is save the simulation results as an STL, and import that back into the file to use as a stock solid on subsequent operations.

The reason I don't like this method is that FC is not capable of using different stock solids per setup, so you have to remember to change your stock between setups.

An omission in FC that would make sense but has never been implemented would be to use stock models for simulation rather than just for toolpath constraints.
