You could find the tool you want to export, then use the "Paste" button on the Tool Holder Properties dialog window to "Paste example into graphics window". You can then export that curve in a variety of different formats by selecting File>Export from the drop-down menus. You may have to alter the geometry curve slightly depending on what the other CAM software requires.

I'm trying to get a profile of the points that define the tool holders but I can't seem to find a way to do that. In the "Tool Holder Properties" there's an option to get the Curve of Revolution but I'm not sure how to use that. I basically want to get points to define the shape of the holder or a curve that represents it. I would ideally like it to be exported in some kind of XML format but any exporting help is appreciated. Thank you!

Tracy,

Are you wanting to export a tool holder profile from FeatureCAM? If so, I don't think that's what that dialog window is for. If you're trying to import a tool holder profile, to use for simulation for example, you have a few options. Several tool holder manufacturers, like Sandvik Coromant, provide 2D .DXF and 3D .STP models which can be loaded directly into the CAM software using the dialog in the picture in your original post. You could also create a .DXF file using measurements from your tool holder to define a curve that FeatureCAM can revolve around the Z-axis (a cross-section of half of the tool, essentially). Hope that makes sense.

Hey Jason, I'm looking to export the tool holder profile from FeatureCAM to import into another CAM system. Do you know of any way to export an existing tool holder profile in FeatureCAM? I know that you can export tools from the tool manager but that doesn't seem to provide the exact profile. Thanks.

Hi @Anonymous,

Welcome to Autodesk Community.

You can also paste example the holder model on graphic window and later extract its revolved boundary using Curve from surfaces > Revolved boundary. Refer a video and let me know if you have any questions.

Thank you.
