Here's a screen shot of how I have been able to create the Spine but when it comes to doing the sphere at the tip it is wanting to leave a little boss or 'nipple' at the end that isn't getting cleaned up.

I'm trying to do some surface work with the B Axis of a Tsugami SS327-5AX using a 1/4 ball nose endmill but instead of using the very tip of the ball I would like to tilt it a little and have the B Axis maintain that contact area. How would I go about doing this? I'm assuming the face window is '5 Axis Plane' and then what from there?

Any input would be greatly appreciated!

Hi cody.estes ,

you can work with a 3+2 strategy or with a 5 axis simultaneous.

In the first case you have to create a setup with the correct inclination, in the second one you have to set correctly the tool axis into the toolpath ( see the attached image).

If you can, attach a sample at the chat, I'll be happy to help you.

Regards.

Regards.

Well I've been playin around with it all day and this is what I have figured out so far. The path type for the shape I'm assuming is Spine and I know about the Lead and Lean now and how to limit the B axis from going to far one way or another. But what I can't figure out is if my Face Plane should be set from Z0 X0 or if it should be set like the way the attached screen shot is.

Problem with setting the face plane to the angle that it is in the screen shot is that then I'm not sure how to go about creating a spine tool path since it wants a path in Y or X.

Thank you for your help!

Hi cody.estes ,

the Spine strategy is a projection strategy than can involve some issue when the surfaces are in a steep position.

That's the reason why you can find a little boss or 'nipple' at the end of the sphere.

You can resolve it by using a 3Doffset strategy, in a 3+2 strategy or 5axis simultaneous.

I attach at this message an image and a sample project.

I'm available for any explanation.

Regards.
