TIP: How to create a public share in A360

Hey guys,

I have seen this question come in a few times lately and wanted to create a nice A360 TIP on how to create a public share. What is a public share you ask? Well let me tell you. It's a great way to share a file with others for download or just to view the file in a project. The best part is anyone you share the link with can view the file.

The first thing we want to do is get to a file that we want to share.

TIP: Public Share only works wiht files, not folders.

For this example, I'm going to use one of the Revit Sample files.

Lets open up the RVT file in the A360 Viewer. In the upper right hand corern is the share icon.

TIP: You can share or use Live Review.

Click on Share and that will open up a new dialog box. You have a few options here.

You can copy the link and then paste it into your own eMAIL to send off for review

You can pick EMAIL and that brings up another option to type in an eMAIL address, or addresses, and a short note about the file you are sending out for review.

You can allow the person that is viewing the file to download the file. Or you can disable this if you don't want them to do anything but view the file.

You can add a password to the file that they need to enter before they can view the file.

EMAIL looks like this.

Once you send the file off to someone else, they just need to click on the link and they can view the file. They don't to have an A360 account, just the link to the file. And if you enabled download, they can also download the file and make modifications.

TIP: If you are working on the file with other people, it's better to invite them into the project. If they just need to give you feedback and view the file, then the public share is a great option.

Here is what the file looks like when you open up the link from the public share.

TIP: You don't have to limit this to just files that you can view. You could also create a zip file full of other files you need to share. Create a public share and then eMAIL the link to everyone that needed to look at the file.

You can also embed the same file. So if you wanted to put this into your own company WEB Site, click on the Embed link. Then copy the embed code and paste it into your company WEB Site.

Thanks for the tip Bud.

You can also share the file without having to open it(see attachement).

I shared one of my files as a test and it worked really well as a read only document and the measure tool is a great feature but it didn't seem to work on my test i.e. I couldn't take any measurements.
