It's actually the other way that are the issue. I change my design in the 'design' space. But it doesnt update the model in the manufacturing model. I did however figure out how to update it once, but I don't know what I did to achieve it. The manufacturing model is now v121, but as you can see the design model is up to v127. Even if I try to create a new manufacturing model, it is still the v121 model it uses.

Hi all.

How does one update the version of the design model in the manufacturing model? At the moment, the manufacturing model seems to only use the design model originally assigned to the manufacturing model, and not the latest version of the design. I'm sure I'm just missing something, but I really cannot figure it out Thanks

I have seen this behaviour once before where a derived model (that I then did a manufacturing model of) was out of date. When opening the derived model, I got the prompt that it was out of date and updated. This showed the change, however, when I went into my manufacturing model, the changes were not reflected.

Annoyingly (from a fault finding point of view), I have not been able to recreate this behaviour and everything now updates as it should.

Whilst I appreciate this is not much help in solving, it is something I have come across.

I've had this problem too. When I imported an updated model from Solidworks into Fusion it broke my manufacturing model. I'm not sure why because other times they updated as expected. I had to go through and regenerate and in many cases reselect faces/contours etc for each toolpath. Because of that I've decided not to use manufacturing models going forward, I'll be making any changes in the design space as I've had very few problems with that in my workflow.

The method I just found that will update the manufacturing model version to the same as the design model is:

1. Go to manufacturing workspace

2. Expand manufacturing model folder to check version

3. Go back to design workspace

4. Edit the sketch

5. Finish edit sketch without making changes

6. Go back to manufacturing workspace

7. Expand manufacturing model folder and check version number, it should have updated.

I know it sounds stupid and it definitely sounds like an unintentional "feature" (which finding it was also unintentional) but it has worked for me the last three times I have had issues updating my manufacturing model (albeit, this was on only one file so far and my file only has one sketch, not sure how it will work with a design that has multiple sketches). The only issue I have seen is that sometimes it breaks projected sketch geometry in your manufacturing model so you have to re-link them and also double check your tool paths are in the right location because one time one of the tool paths turned 90 degrees but the other two didn't rotate so I just had to reselect the profiles the rotated ones were cutting.

I tried jonathan's trick, but that didn't work for me. When you say "edit the sketch," I'm not sure which sketch you mean, but I tried editing a couple of different ones and neither edits affected the out of date manufacturing model.

Would anyone else be able to confirm if Manufacturing Models are meant to update as you update your design, or not?

Cooper, it has worked for me on two projects consistently for the past few weeks. BUT both of those projects only have one sketch in the Design workspace, and that Design workspace sketch is the one I meant when I said to edit it. Hopefully that helps. If not I will try to get a better workflow written up of my process and see if that helps, or maybe it's still just a glitch in the system.

This issue almost cost a man his job today.. We produced a modification in design space the model updated. In MFG old image was the same as original. We cut it out. It went through production. This was a costly mistake.. lesson learned Do not trust Fusion. check and triple check every step you make.

It would be nice to be able to get to the bottom of this. Generally, the update should be automatic. But there must be something that's getting in the way of that.

Can anyone provide a model that is out of sync wrt the design, so that we can poke under the covers to try to figure out why what should be happening is not?

Unless Im mistaken, the MFG model is for things with patches and edits to allow for easier programming. If just machining the model youre designing, do not create a new MFG model and use the main part model/component as your CAM model.

This issue is still present. I added some new stuff to design, created a new manufacturing model (That showed it is based off the current revision.. all new parts since i made the 1st MFG model were not present.

Oddly enough, editing a sketch in the design space AFTER creating a manufacturing model (But making 0 changes) fixed the issue and all my changes are now reflected in the new manufacturing model.

I have found that if you go into your design space and right click on your project name at the top and select "Capture design history" the model in the manufacture drawing space will update accordingly.

Hope this helps.
