There's a lot to get into, but basically the "engrave" operation is not what you want to be using for the toolpath you're trying to create. Try 2D contour, or chamfer.

As far as the engravings go, my personal preference (which is wrong) is to use the "Trace" toolpath and then do a G52 shift for whatever depth is needed. Alternatively you can use 2D contour with compensation set to "Off" and lead in/out disabled, then set the bottom height as "Selected contours" minus whatever depth you want..

Good Evening Everyone, need to pick some brains...

In the Fusion file you will find a mess of construction and single blue lines, as well as cut out geometry both requiring what I think is the engrave geometry as a first step.

Firstly the straight lines. Here my intention is to engrave thin cross-hair type lines into the wood as an indication on exactly where i want the screws to go. Problem is when I select the blue lines that make up the cross-hair they do not constitute a chain so they are not included into the contour selection. Is there perhaps a way that I can carve these lines into the wood without them being a chain?

The second issue I found was when I wanted to use the engrave tool to cut 45 deg chamfers onto the cutout geometry before I actually cut it out, gave me some freaky results. The round profiles were not followed, but rather the tool path is that of a diamond shape. I included a circle and a slot in the engrave example I have supplied in the file. Surely if i select a contour, the v-bit should follow that contour? Mind blowing

Anyway Please Help

Kind Regards

Warren Krummeck

I use trace tool path for engraving. You can do multiple cuts to a depth you want by using a axial offset. You are able to set the number of cuts that you want take to get to required depth.

I’ve recently had success in engraving hardened steel using a dbit. The cuts where only 0.02mm to a total depth of 0.16mm .I was very surprised it worked as I didn’t think the cutter would last
