Hi,

Two things.

When I receive this warning, I typically just ignore it and the machining works just fine.

"Warning: Cannot plunge outside of stock."

I'm still curious what it means and what I'm doing incorrectly.

Secondly, how do I get fusion to see the model height when using a pocket operation. Fusion creates the tool path using the stock height which just cuts air.

file

https://a360.co/32np09K

thanks

That appears to be a false error message. I think it's being generated from the fact your Helix diameter is too large, so it resorts to a plunge move. I will open a task to look into this.

Looking at your part, I think you would be better served by using the 2D Bore cycle, as your tool IS large enough to handle that feature without needing multiple step overs

I am having the same error message, however I have "Plunge" selected and not "Helix." I have tried to reselect the contours for my closed pocket and still seem to get an error when I re-generate the tool path.

On your second question on the heights tab you can change your top height to a selection and select the top of the feature you are machining from. Leave the retract height from the stock top to avoid collisions on moves.

Just to clarify, do you mean that I should leave the settings I have for the retract height as is, and then change the top height reference by selecting the top-most feature on the part? Would this potentially rid of the “plunge outside of stock” warning?

Thank you!

I was under the impression that this issue had been fixed for this update. Apparently that's not the case (or it's a similar, but different issue). Are you able to share a model for which you're seeing this?

I understand there’s been other responses by this point, but I did want to give you an update. I tried your recommendation of selecting a top feature under the “Heights” tab for my “Top” height, and kept my retract height the same.. and still received the error.
