Hi Bertho,

I believe you haven't setup your Work Coordinate System (WCS) yet.

Per the attached screen shot your Setup has is equal to the model's coordinate system which is on the side of the part.

For 3 axis milling it has to have the Z-Axis in alignment with your tool in the spindle.

The second image shows how I set it up and it successfully posted.

Hope this helps.

Jay

While trying to mill a pocket or a trace in an existing box I am getting an Error:

Tool orientation is not supported.
Error at line: 405
Error in operation: 'Trace2'
Failed while processing onSection() for record 293.

I got the box cad model from the vendor.

I created a similar block with a pocket and it posts just fine.

I am using the Mach3Mill post with default values

I have spent hours trying everything that I can think of without any luck. I am probably missing something obvious.

I agree that it probably has something to do with the coordinate system. I have tried all variations and also redefining what view is "top".

The picture is what I think it should be (like yours) and it does not work regardless if locked to the center or to a corner.

It is also confusing that simulation works.

You have the WCS set in the toolpath remove that and set it in the setup and it is fine.

You only set the WCS in the toolpath if it is for 4 or 5 axis toolpaths on a different plane to the setup WCS.

Thank You!

The CAD model that I received had the Z axis "sideways" and I thought I just had to define the surface to machine by clicking on the desired "Z face". I eventually used the MOVE command to rotate Z in the desired direction and then there was no need to define the Z axis in the setup.

That is confusing though to me since it looks correct and I would expect it to work that way: Define what surface to machine. I am learning...

That brings up a related Question: If I need to machine a second surface, do I have to go back and rotate the Z axis again. Will the part not be also moved in sub-assemblies if I mess with the origin?

I need to watch your YouTube videos.

It matter not which way your part is sitting in Fusion (Model or CAM workspace).

When you create a Setup, do not default to "Model Orientation". Rather, choose the "Select Z plane and X axis"

You then select the surface that is "normal" to the Z axis of your machine, and the edge that would be running along the "X" axis

I have been doing what you describe and I thought it would work but it did not. Maybe it has to do with the Mach3 post that is limited to three axis. Also the CAD model was downloaded so that might have something to do with it. Removing the origin setup from the tool path and "correcting" the basic model I get no errors.

I need to read and watch more YouTube videos since I might be making some obvious error.

The Mach3 post only puts out multi-axis moves if it is set in the pre-post dialog.

You have to set the WCS in the in the setup otherwise you will have problems as you have seen.

When doing the cam in Fusion it does not matter one bit what way around the model is, you set the Z with the WCS in the setup, then if it is a multi-axis toolpath that is needed you set it in the toolpath only if it is different to the setup.

All this is in the support & learning at the top of the Fusion forum page.
