Morning Folks, The lift height is a problem here and i am unable to produce the code without him lifting the tool to re position whether in rapid or feed. Is there any way to keep the tool on the surface the entire time? Tool 30 pocket path travels through the contour selection.(see screen shot) any idea why? There are holes in this plate. (there is another body to select from)I filled them in to try to get the path correct. I had no success creating the path from the geometry with the holes present.

Sorry, didn't see the .f3d file. Could have sworn that it wasn't there...

Try a Horizontal toolpath:

worked great for tool 30. Thank you. It worked great and it fixed the contour violation. i tried another horizontal path with tool 36. i cant get him to keep the tool down.

This can be accomplished with 3D Pocket. Your application doesn't lend itself well to Horizontal staying down, as it "sees" all the gaps.

I just have to say though; Keeping tool down is going to drastically increase your cycle time. Is there a reason you feel you need to do it on a roughing pass?

just a habit from working with molds. going right to finish depth wouldnt leave a flat floor. I was trying to avoid the lift to keep pressure on the material and tool to minimize the vibration. plate is not as flat as i would like it to be. on tool 30 i have to add screws in the holes to hold it down to avoid the chatter. This isnt a mold so i may just break that habit and try to go to finish on tool 36. Ill try the pocket cycle also. i started that way but dont know why i veered away from it. OCD I guess. always looking for a faster path. ill post back in a bit let you know how it did. i made the part. ill post a pic in a few. I have 75 to make.

you can see the chatter in a few spots before i screwed it down. but thats it.

I made a 2d pocket path but i still cant keep the tool down i tried the 3d pocket only to get the same results. the horizontal works but the lift height is the problem i keep having. the pocket I am using now lifts with a feed movement to the next position. Flatness is not in my favor here so i need the tool to stay down. Keeping the tool down on the surface the entire path will solve my problem. tool 36. there are 2 paths the horizontal and the 2d pocket. the stay down selection produces the short feed lift. the smaller the number creates the rapid movement.
