The tab function in the 2d contour seems to work very well. But I think fusion does not see them in the program.

What I am doing is I holding my nested parts on a 4'x8' vacuum table and also adding tabs to help hold them. I want to add a second operation and grab a smaller bit to then machine away the little tabs. I would think adding a 2d contour with rest maching "on" would do this but it does not. I attached a file. Does anyone have any ideas its probably another bug I seem to find a bunch of them.

Thanks

John

The 2D toolpaths aren't stock-aware so they won't see the remaining stock. The Rest Machining setting there is in order to clean out corners or geometry left by a larger diameter tool.

You can sort of get 3D Contour to work, but It's less than ideal. You might be better off making a few independent 2D Contour operations and alter the Tangential Extension distance into large negative values to trim just the tabs away individually.

Is there any way you could add tabs on a 3d toolpath where it is stock
aware. The only software I have found to do this is mastercam. It's just
really expensive. It seems like such a simple thing to do. I have
workarounds but They all add a lot of time. Time is money you know.
Thanks for your reply

I'm not a developer, nor do I work for Autodesk, just giving my perspective (the Expert Elite folks are all just dedicated users who help out on the forums).

The issue you have though seems to be more related to stock awareness in 2D paths, but I don't see that changing any time soon. Someone else may be able to chime in with another strategy, but as someone who has kludged through making tabs manually in HSMWorks (they don't even exist in 2D Contour there yet), I can't think of one offhand at the moment.

@Anonymous You should be able to add a 3D Contour with "Rest Machining" and tweak it to remove the remaining stock.

Here is a very quick example:

You will want to tweak your lead settings and possibly use some sketch boundaries to keep the toolpath out of the previous corners that the CAM thinks still need cleaning up.

File attached.
