2D will do a great job here, but as shallow as those are, either increase the stepover to something really big (70-80%xdiameter) or use 2D Pocket.

Edit: actually, is the bottom of the pattern curved? Might just get away with something like Morph Spiral in 3D if so.

Greetings from Texas,

I am new to both Fusion and CNC but have been inspired by the community and youtube. I am trying to make my first part which is a grip for a Sig 938. The pattern that was applied is a kryptek on the curved surface. My question is do I need to use 2d adaptive or 3d adaptive for the first cuts into the small pockets that make up the group. I am not sure if that makes sense. Below is a link to the CAD. I have only one step which is a facing operation.

Martin

Hi @Anonymous

In my experience you can use either 2D or 3D adaptive in the example you're showing. The difference is that for 2D adaptive you have to select the contours you want to clear out, and in 3D you just need to select the actual model, and check that the top of the stock you are using coincides with the top of the model. But if your pockets all have different depth, or are sculpted at the bottom and/or have tapered walls for example, definitely use the 3D Adaptive.

Hope this helps.
