I am just curious as to what other people have for a standard practice for roughing out undercuts like in the sample file . I am having a hard time coming up with efficient ways to rough machine the feature.

I have been using finishing tool paths like steep and shallow, and flow then programming multiples of the operation using different series of stock to leave to create a roughing sequence. I am almost certain that there is a much better standard practice than how I am currently doing this haha.

Thanks!

I'd use Adaptive Clearing with a Tool Orientation selected and Rest Machining enabled (after using Adaptive to rough out everything except the undercuts.)

That's actually what I'm doing now . I'm just now realizing I didn't make the greatest sample file. The real part I'm machining has some other features in the corners so I'm indexing and roughing at 45° increments to be able to get all the corners cleared out . The only downside is i also have to use Shaft and Holder clearance so each indexed toolpath takes about an hour to generate even with low tolerance and smoothing applied. so with 8 indexes it takes 8 hours just to generate the roughing. I'm getting great toolpaths I'm just unsure if I am doing something stupid that could be done more efficiently.
