I'd like to be able to start my cut off the part, this is quite easy using tangential extension for front and back faces.

But use a negative stock offset and you get this.

Part of the problem is the limit for the back face does not take into account the negative stock allowance. If I put a small offset for the back face I get this but that's not what I want. I want a toolpath like the first image just with a negative stock.

File's attached.

Sort of figured this out for this part if I offset the inner radius combined with tangential extension. Still seems like it should be easier than this.

@HughesTooling we're currently working on a larger project that fixes this issue, as shown in the picture. if you are part of the insider program it should be available soon (along with a bunch of other negative stl, tangential extension and other bug fixes you have requested over the years). In this particular case, however, in addition to the fix you will also need to set the back limit to "contact point" to get what you want since the cutting edge limit sets a hard limit on the tool and therefore will not machine the back wall since there's a negative stl.

Regards,

@akash.kamoolkar Thanks for the update, nice to know work is being done on this.

Also any chance a different view could be used for turning if you have sync view with active setup? I work with assemblies most of the time and find sync view quite useful but it doesn't seem to work too well for turning.

Something like this would be better. I know I can set the view in the setup but it needs setting every time you create a setup so would preferer the default use a better orientation.

So you would prefer a view alignment that treats it as if it's a toolroom lathe, not how it would be in an enclosed lathe with a turret?

Just thinking about it I'd like what gives me the best view, which makes it a bit difficult because what works for boring doesn't work too well for external turning and vice versa. Perhaps an option for Back(upside down) or Front would be the best option as you could either have the toolpath at the bottom or top of the screen.
