Hi

Creating this thread in design is actually quite difficult, I was able to come up with a very close approximation in the attached file.

You cant get it perfectly round on the top of the thread as that would cause issues with the sweep intersecting.

So I have made the major Diameter 23.99mm instead which leaves a tiny flat.

This isn't really that important anyway as its not a functional part of the thread.

I have to thank Mark @HughesTooling for several examples hes done in the past on how to do it.

I was quite surprised to find that Fusion doesn't have a helical cut type function.

You can program the thread in Fusion, but you cant define the insert correctly so the simulation will be bad, but the code will be correct

Heres an insert from iscar

https://www.iscar.com/eCatalog/item.aspx?cat=5993481&fnum=123&mapp=TH&app=284&GFSTYP=M&isoD=1

hello talented fusion people....i too am trying to make a thing (towing eye) with a DIN405 thread to manufacture.. 16x1/8.. and after hours of searching for ways, trying sweeps and revolves, tracing the darn thing over the drawing of the item i want to make with the thread attached, would anyone be able to point me in the direction of a more experienced how to ?

the 24x1/8 file @a.laasW8M6T made actually gave me some hope that its possible...im almost at the point of please someone make it and i will pay, but i want to learn.

any help would be awesome

thank you all

Hi

Do you need to model the thread or do you just need to machine it?

If you just need to cut the thread on a CNC lathe then there is no need to model it in Fusion

you can just Create a threading insert with the correct dimensions and then do a threading cycle on a plain 16.318mm diameter.

the thread insert setup would be like below

The thread parameters would look something like this

resulting sim will not be 100%correct looking because the threading tool in fusion doesn't have the shape to form the thread tops, but it will be fin in real life if you use the correct insert;

https://www.iscar.com/eCatalog/item.aspx?cat=5993481&fnum=123&mapp=TH&app=284&GFSTYP=M&isoD=1

hiya and thank you for the speedy reply ! i do need to model it i think, as i would like to be able to print a test item as i have done with previous things, also i think if i model it it will help me in understanding ways of doing things that may come up in future projects.

i have attached a screen snip of the thread, the top is one an engineer drew on (i have no idea what) but i cant seem to manipulate it/pull it into my sketch and use it, the bottom one is the one i have traced with a fit point spline so i could possibly do something with it.
