I'm having troubles with using boring bar for making a hole with tight tolerance in cnc milling proces. When I choose my setup and select Drill operation and then for cycle type Boring or Fine boring, a boring bar won't move to the end of a hole, it only goes straight up and down without touching the end of a hole. Boring bar's diameter is 18 and hole's diameter is 35 H8 (+0.039/0) [mm]. I have been struggling with this for a while now and really can't find the answer.

Can you please share your file?
Without seeing it, it is hard to help you with your problem.
Within Fusion 360, choose File > Export and save it on your desktop.
After that upload it to this topic so that one of us can take a look at it.

It can be a programming failure but it could also be a post-processor modification wish.

For fine boring we have changed a lot of post processors related to issues i.c.m. the machine.

Fusion cannot interpolate a boring bar to make a larger hole, the boring cycles in the drill menu are meant to be used with the boring bar in a boring head:

The boring head is manually adjusted to bore the correct size hole.

Some machine tools can do can do interpolation turning but the controller and machine tool must be configured to do it, it will normally be a special machine cycle.

Hi @bh220940,

I see that you have used Boring.

That means that the tool doesn't step away of the wall before removing.

So it goes within G1 out of the hole.

If you want to step away of the wall you have to use Fine-Boring.

It looks like it is working fine to me.

Are you expecting it to show material being removed in the simulation?

I think I won't work properly because is doesn't show the tool moving right and touching the end of the hole aka removing the material, only up and down, a because the tool is D18 and hole D35, how will the tool touch material if it won't be in contact with it?

@Marco.Takx yes thank you, I tried that too, but the result is the same (everthing written above). But yes, I understand stepping away of the wall.

This is one of those things where CAM and real life don't match.

Because fusion has no idea what the boring head is actually adjusted to it cannot simulate it.

In reality it doesn't matter, I bore a lot of holes and don't even think about it.

You can set the diameter of your boring bar to the hole size(in the tool library), so change it from 18mm to 35mm, and then it will show material being removed, but if you use the fine boring cycle with shift it will show a crash when the tool retracts as fusion only can simulate rotationally symmetric tools in milling(For now) so the tool shifts into the bore.

In real life the spindle will orient and retract away.

It would be nice if fusion simulated the bar being offset and then orienting and retraction, but for all intents and purposes it doesn't matter

the bore shift is usually handled by the controller, not set as a CAM programmed movement. Just model your boring bore as a drill or EM equal to the hole size.
