Hmm. That definitely sounds odd. Are you actually creating NC Programs in X & Y? Or posting setups? Are you able to take a screencast of that?

Thanks,

I have several machines, and i have more customers with repeatable work. I normally save the Gcode files to a general folder on the CNC machine in a customers folder and from there i go to the correct folder for the workpiece and store the Gcode for the correct opp in each of these subfolders.

With the old workflow i selected the CNC machines folder in the output, and after posting i could simple store the file in the required customer/workpiece folder with the storage dialog.

If i alter a file i am currently working on, (which was easy, since the last name was remembered in the post dialog) the machine asks me to use the updated file and I could move on.

Now it doesn't show the folder selecting dialog any longer, and i am forced to open the file explorer every time i post a file. Nor is the last chosen name remembered, it always goes back to 1001. For my workflow it's highly inefficient and with the previous versions i could still select the old methodoligy, but with the new and hip version of march, that most convenient version is gone and i am forced to put more effort in every single file i post for the machines.

Another thing that bugs me; i am using several machines and several PC's. In the passed the last selected machine was rememberd on each individual machine. Now it remembers the last machine used in my account. Not PC related.

Like i said, highly inefficient. (and frustrating too) Any change there is a tickbox anywhere that enables me to select the old type of file storage? I am far from a fan of the current itteration.

I was just about to post the same (very strong) objection to the new post saving routine. Having to type in the name of the post every time is a huge time sink. Please fix this regression bug.

Reverting back to the old UI certainly works, but you lose all of the benefits of the new UI.

I probably have it wrong but anyway to proceed

Let me see if I have got it right, what is being said is that when a File is either created or re-opened that the Destination Folder is blank and has to be re-entered ??

If that is the issue then I don`t get that here, if I re-open a file to modify something and using the NC Program system then all the boxes are still populated exactly as when it was saved, correct Post Processor, correct Program Name/Number, correct File Name and correct Destination Folder, nothing changes

If I need to send the modified file to a different Destination then yes, of course that is a change but as long as you know the Destination folder then it is simply a matter of using the "Select Output Folder" option and navigating to the desired folder and saving the file there. When the file is opened again the Destination folder will be the last one selected so should be OK

If there is any interest I can do a short Screencast showing what I have here

The NC dialog always opens with the filename/number set to 1001 even though that toolpath was previously saved with a different name. The legacy app does the same, except it also opened a file manager window where you could either type in a new name or click on an older file to save it with that name. The new (horrible) version doesn't open the file manager window, so one must type in the new name or navigate to the folder and rename the new post.

Thank you, i was looking under 'manufacture' since I disabled this 'new style' an update ago sharing the same 'enthusiasm', but after the latest update it was shoved down my throat again. The fact that you can disable the new look under preview, makes me wonder if this highly crippled version will be implemented and the only viable version in the near future. It might look OK on the design table, but in practice it's far from ideal. old one = perfectly usable, new one is useless

Another big problem with NC Programs is it adds more info to the browser with no way to manage and organise. Both the setups folder and the NC Programs folder need sub folders to help manage and organise. Another option is get rid of the NC programs folder and put the NC Program in the setup is was created from.

this is the browser and setups for a mould I just finished, some of the setups might end up creating 2 or 3 NC Programs so expand the models as well and the browser ends up 3 or 4 times the height of the screen. I tried NC Programs for a while and can see some benefits but until we have organisation in the browser I can't use them. Hope they don't turn off the old post dialog before the sort something out. Bit of Déjà vu with the new tool library being pushed before it was anywhere near usable!

I should point out that our data indicates a relatively small portion of users who revert to the old UI

To your point @HughesTooling , you can turn off the NC Program populating to the Browser:

To the issue of Post selection resetting, this doesn't happen if you select a Machine Configuration that has a post processor of your choice associated with it.

You specifically create an NC program so you don't get the option not to save to the browser. If you have your preferences set to use NC Programs and you just select a setup then select Post you will get the option not to save to the browser.

@engineguy The reason I don't like the NC Program method is everything I do is a one off so I just reuse files on my USB drives. I have machines setup I use in my setups so all setting and where I want to save to are set, I hit Post then select the file I want to save over on the USB stick. Using the NC Programs I have to type in a name each time, if all goes well I'll never post the same NC Program again.

Now I do see advantages as sometimes I post from one setup to 2 different machines so the extra effort of using NC Programs could be helpful as I could have 2 NC Programs using different posts. Problem is I might end up with 25 setups and 50 NC programs. I've asked for folders under the Setup folder for years but I guess not enough people end up with lots of setups to see the benefit. Not saving the NC programs seem like the worst of both worlds!

This 'solution' describes how terrible this entire thing is thought through; checking or unchecking it makes NO difference in the layout of the post screen.

In other words; that box doesn't 'work as advertised' so i am forced to use the highly crippled and most frustrating way of posting.

Owh.. Where to begin to describe how terrible this now works.. Let me try.

File X has location X, postprocessor X and the NCProgramX has been created and saved to make sure it's all set to X, X and X.

File Y has location Y, postprocessor Y and the NCProgramY has been created and saved to make sure it's all set to Y, Y and Y.

If i now open file X, to create a new NC with a slight change in the all information is 'location Y, postprocessor Y and the NCProgramY'

What a mess.

https://autode.sk/3iVlddm

Hmm. That definitely sounds odd. Are you actually creating NC Programs in X & Y? Or posting setups? Are you able to take a screencast of that?
