As silly as it sounds... you have to pin your system before assigning the demo phase. You can unpin it after assigning the phase and the objects retain their connectivity!

I'm using Revit 2019.

I have piping that I create in Revit, using Fabrication... regardless if I draw Revit Piping, then convert via Piping to Fabrication option, or build it directly using Fabrication, I've tried this both ways, same result...

Anyway, I build this piping, and I select all of it, and I want to set it to be "Existing" by changing the "Phase Created" to Existing.

All is good so far.

If I grab all that same piping, and set it to be demolished by setting the Phase Demolished to Demo (or any level for that matter) I get this "action necessary" prompt about how things need disconnected. If I "ok" through that, I lose all my flanges, and weld gaps.

I tested with just a weldneck flange, pipe and an elbow and this is what I got.

I exported the error report and I snipped my screen with it.

Is doing Demo phasing not an option with Fabrication parts?

Phasing with MEP items has always given a disconnect warning and disconnected the elements. I haven't done phasing with fabrication items yet but would assume it would follow the same logic. Its nothing you are doing just a limitation within the program. Do you have to use phasing or maybe a workset would work?

You know, I'm down with it being "disconnected", because, well, if you're demoing pipe, something will clearly be getting disconnected.

My issue is with flanges disappearing. There seems to be no way to have Fabrication parts that have ANY "Phase Demolished" assigned to it.

It's seeming like I'm going to have to completely ignore phasing altogether because of Fabrication and utilize Shared Parameters and Filters and stuff. Or a workset as you mentioned.

@Anonymous

While this does, indeed work.... (my mind is blown right now)

there's an additional step needed. Say you have an existing pipe with a valve on it. You want to demo everything from the valve and beyond. Prior to remain.

While the demoed pipe is pinned, you DO have to manually go unpin, and then delete the gasket and bolt set. Otherwise, when you go to add a new flange, gasket and bolt set to the existing valve, it remembers that something is connected to it and will not connect.

But thank you!!! This works like a champ.

Sorry it was 1.5 years late haha I didn't happen to have those fittings in my run when I discovered this so thank you for trying this solution out and adding that part in there! I did notice that sometimes it still may break in one spot despite being pinned. I found that sending the parts on either side of the break back to "None" in phase demolished, re-connecting them, and repeating the pinning/unpinning process again can repair the break.

@Anonymous

No worries.. while this was a huge help, this situation was pretty low on my totem pole of "must figure out" items... This was something I could live with, just accept the annoyances.

I tried it the minute I saw this post, and it was great... I just discovered that second step is needed. I tried connecting to the existing valve and the software just looked at me like, "I got nuthin!" haha

Deleted the bolt sets and gasket, after I unpinned everything, and the flange went away....

Left everything pinned, unpinned only the Gasket and Bolt Set, deleted them and the flange stayed put and I was able to connect. when I switch to Construction phase. We have a winner!
