Haven't played with this with this is a while so I could be wrong but I believe it's related to this... except that it's what allows the RIF to map a Revit Family to a specific ITM where as this like explains it when the conversion is done in Revit.

I have recently been using 2018 release of Fabrication CADmep and Revit and found a scenario where there appears to be too many nodes placed on a designline when importing a Revit run of ducting into a Fabrication drawing. Wondering has anyone else encountered this scenario?

The process of export/import is as follows

In Revit

Create a run of duct in Revit using generic families or a configured service/specification

Using the Store Design Line Elements tool in RME to FAB tab, selecting the run of duct

Save the file as a RIF file using the above tool and OUT button.

In Fabrication CADmep

Use command PROCESSRUN and select file saved from Revit

When the run of duct has been placed, activate the Designline by double clicking

Select a service and specification and populate/fill with 3D Items

At this point some of the Items do not place

Annotate the Design Line to examine the Nodes placed

At the Bends where one would expect a BEND Node there are unusual Node annotation like "Rectangular Flanged Radius Bend"

Using the NODE drop down menu on the DesignLine palette > EDIT, this opens the NODE EDITOR

Here the list of Nodes can be viewed and when the "unusual" Nodes are deleted we are left with the normal and familiar Nodes

In the drawing when I unfill and fill the 3D Items, the DesignLine works and fills correctly.

The annotation also now shows what we would expect to see

It appears that for some reason there are too many Nodes being placed during this process.

Screencast attached for your viewing

A further note on this issue.

When using the command "processrun" we get a dialog box asking us to verify mappings. Here we select the service we require.

This is fine but there is also another tab > "FITTINGS IGNORES", here we see a list of fittings which appears to be the additional Nodes placed on the DesignLine. If we select to ignore these fittings then the DesignLine populates/fills correctly.

Question is.. why are they there in the first place?

Hi Darren, Thank you for your reply and link. I have explored the Autodesk Knowledge resource as you provided but I am still unsure why this issue occurs even after checking the mapping between the two software. I assume it is one of those issues that now we know how to deal with it, then that's what we just do until it doesn't happen in some future release.

Greatly appreciate your reply, thank you.
