Hello,

I’ve been tasked with taking a PDF file floor plan and overlaying it on an established AutoCAD floor plan. However, the PDF file is just an image of the floor plan. The PDF has electrical, lighting, and other items that we want to overlay onto the AutoCAD floor plan. I attempted to scale the image; however, I am not able to line it up correctly.

I appreciate any help.

If the PDF drawing is to scale (e.g. 1/8" = 1'-0"), you would bring the drawing in at a scale factor of 12 x the denominator (assuming architectural foot-inch units), so 8 x 12 = 96 scale factor. If it were at 1/4" scale, it'd be a scale factor of 48 (4 x 12).

If the drawing is scaled to fit and not a known scale, then a known dimension (such as a door opening) is a good way to adjust the scale. You can use the SCALE command and select the Reference option. Draw a 3' line at the edge of the door opening (assuming a 3' door) and then scale your PDF by reference to that 3' line.

Hi,

you may need to use SCALE command >> Reference .

The quality of your PDF is going to matter: the worst kind though is a paper scan that got saved to PDF, it is almost impossible to fix the skew.

Look into the Autodesk add-on RASTER DESIGN, it has a learning curve but it may be able to fix some of your issues.

if you can, post your DWG and PDF here for others to offer other ideas.

Even with Raster Design, it is sometimes very difficult to get the image perfectly lined up. Also, the floor plan may not be drawn to the same size as that print, i.e. adjustments made for as-built conditions. When this happens, I get it as close as possible and them make minor adjustments as I move around the area that I am tracing. If precision is a concern, after finishing the drawing you can field verify.

Hello,

I wanted to thank you all for your suggestion, after I inserted the PDF, I click on the properties and changed the X scale to .2666 and it lined up with my autoCAD file perfectly!

Thank you very much!
