Autocad LT for Mac 2021 - Saving files to updated version / Removing Ver 2018

Dear Forum

I have purchased and downloaded AutoCAD for Mac LT 2021 and I am now creating file suing the new version.

However, when I open 2021 version files from Finder they open in AutoCAD for Mac 2018. The older version is still in my computer.

How do I make the new version the default for save as? If I do so, will the older drawings created in Version 2018 open in the 2021 version? Can I safely remove the 2018 version from my computer without compromising my ability to open files saved on version 2018.

When I try to save a 2021 version file it appears to only allow me to save it in version 2018 format? (See screenshot attached)

I can't see anything in preferences or anywhere else that enables me to update to save my files in the version I bought?

I hope you can assist me.

Autocad has never had the same file format as the version every year (ex Autocad 2020 never had a 2020 file format, 2021 doesn’t have a 2021 format)

Hi George,

If you want to open DWG files in 2021 version of AutoCAD from Finder, you need:

- open Finder window, navigate to folder with DWG files

- select one of them, right-click and select "Get info" from context menu

- in Info window go to Open with section and select AutoCAD 2021 from drop-down list

- now pick on "Change all..." button and confirm with "Continue" button:

You can safely remove 2018 version from your Mac, all DWG files will open in AutoCAD 2021.
