Scale function could be nice. However I would prefer to have a scale parameter inside the family. In that way you can control which families can be scaled and if needed scale each instance separately.

Personally I don´t like this feature if you consider a BIM workflow. The component dimension will not correspond to the real component.

Sorry charlv, but I agree with fabiosato for exactly the reasons he mentions. I have voted up several of your ideas, but I don't this one should be pursued.

charlv,

Sorry, I agree with fabiosato too. Just imagine, I insert a chiller model from manufacturer and scale it down. Now it is not a real model, what is bad.

Another example. I placed a 2.5 mm height text, in another place I scale it down, in third place I scale it up and as result I can see all different text around on my drawing. It happens with junior designers when they work in AutoCAD. It is just a big help that Revit keeps consistency with Type definitions.

Hi,

If we take the approach to frown upon all the functions that is not BIM then we might as well take away Detail Lines as you can draw objects in 2D "AutoCAD like".

What I am suggesting is to include this function is it enhances Revit.

I don't think this makes sense for families either, especially without a lot of restrictions. If something needs to be scaled it should be following specific rules. Are you scaling proportionately or only in one direction? It's easy to build in instance parameters that allow families to stretch.

charlv,

Could you provide some specific situations where you would need to scale families as you request in the model environment?

I specific example is of DWG tree that is inserted into a family and then loaded into project. I would then prefer scaling the tree within the project environment.

CAD families can be scaled (using the scale factor) within the Family Editor yet cant be scaled in the Project Environment.

@charlv I don't like the idea of having any families of CAD elements, especially one like a tree that you might copy around. If you need that maybe you should suggest a way to link the instance scale to a family instance parameter, or build a family that can do that. Are there any non-DWG examples of when this would be needed?
