Have the ability to select different drafting view types when creating new drafting views similar to the way you select different floor plan types when creating new floor plans.

The purpose of this is to control the placement of drafting views in the project browser. For example, by discipline for multi-discipline models, or just organizing typical details from project specific details.

To get around this, we have a project parameter added to our Views called "View Type." Our project browser is sorted by this parameter and it creates the heading according to what you have typed into the View Type parameter on a per view basis. We've found it's an easy way to organize the view lists exactly how we want them.

Does that help your problem at all?

nickYM4B9,

I am aware of this work around for organizing drafting views. However even this requires a two step process. The first is to create the drafting view and then either fill in this parameter value or apply a view template to assign the correct value to the parameter. If you had the option to select view types, like floor plans, elevations, sections, etc. each view type would assign a view template (this function already exists) with the correct properties to locate the view in the project browser.

Just came across this issue now setting up an office template, it boggles the mind why this isn't already embedded as an option, all the functionality is already present and all other view types such as plans / sections / elevations etc. already allow you to select the view type before you create the view. It ruins the idea of automatically associating view templates to view types
