idea The ability to synchronise families between projects en Revit Ideas

This idea is a similar system to the style synchronisation feature in AutoCAD Architecture.

So you working on a project with several models, how to you make sure that a certain door family is the same between all models?

At the moment the only method you have is to save out the family and then load it into the other models - or use transfer project standards.

What I would like for the user to set up a project as a Project Library which hold all of the Families. the library would track the versions of the families.

When a building model is loaded, the feature would automatically scan the project library and notify the user if the version of a certain family has been updated in the library, the user can choose to load it into their model.

This way families can be consistent between all of the projects, and when a family is updated it will synchronise out into the individual building models, and the users can be sure they models are always consistent and up to date.

Great idea. When loading a family in we should be able to say whether we want to load it as a separate instance or as a link object. If I select the link option then the family will update whenever it changes in the location where I loaded it from. This is by no means a new idea and has been really well implemented in the Adobe Creative Suite for quite some time. For example, I will have an InDesign document open that links in some Photoshop illustration. When one of my colleagues updates the illustration my InDesign document updates automatically while I'm editing it.

Of course there should be some warning/confirmation to ask the user if they want the family to update, otherwise there would be all kids of pain when all the windows suddenly change while I'm editing the wall they're in.

Yes, was going to include this one as part of my UK19 wishlist. Can't believe this isn't possible already.

When we work on hotel projects with multiple room types, it's a major chore to keep families synced between the various room models.

Hi, does anyone know if there has been some progress on this? It would be sooooo helpful if possible!

Is that a plugin, or something added to one of the newer versions of Revit?
