idea Material Parameter to Respond to Filter en Revit Ideas

Trying to make a colored plan to show different types of Wall Finishes in Revit does not seem feasible or easily done in Revit. Therefore, the user must be very creative to produce this deliverable.

Some colleagues place thin walls in front of room walls to be able to tag or create filters to overwrite their graphical appearance on the floor plan and get the data in Revit schedules. Others use colorful annotation detail lines to reach this goal.

I aim to use the model data combined with Revit features and tools to streamline the production of this deliverable.

As Walls have layers that hold materials, I thought I would simply need to access the Material parameters and create filters to allow me to overwrite the last layer representing the Wall Finish. However, the Material parameter was unavailable for Walls. Therefore, this idea failed.

I then decided to explore Parts. They are accessible via the Visibility Graphics window and are available in Filter Creation. So, I searched for the Material parameter and found it as expected. Then, I created a View Filter to interact with the data placed in this System parameter. Unfortunately, Revit did not behave as expected, and the graphics overrides only displayed them upon selecting the whole wall. I then tested the overrides for Part in the Visibility Graphics window. The behavior was the same as the filter: the overrides are displayed only when the wall element is entirely selected.

Combining Parts with Filters would save Revit users a lot of work. However, Revit developers need to review and improve the behavior of the Filters and Parts categories override for I believe something is impeding the overrides from functioning as they should. Could you please repair or implement this?

Could you please vote for this request?

The above overrides are only visible when the entire wall element is selected.

This would definitely be nice to have.

Currently you could set a background cut pattern fill colour for your finish materials.

Then using a view template you could set the cut lines of the walls to be white with a weight of 1 and also turn off common edges and the foreground cut pattern.

Then is all your standard plans you could have it set so the background cut pattern is not visible.
