idea Shadow as an element en Revit Ideas

Revit can compute and project complex shadows but they are not available for geometric analysis (location, area).

It will be useful to make computed shadow accessible to analysis from the API. Maybe as a surface ?

Why ? Because taking into account light/shadow ( from an energy pov) early in design process (in the BIM authoring tool) will help to fulfill the BIM promises (early iterative integrated design). This functionality will not replace a dedicated study with energy+ but could accelerate the convergence through a compliant energetic design.

The pictures illustrates a possible outcomes of such functionality : two surfaces are created to represent lighted and shadowed surface on a element of interest (a window here). This result have been achieved though the development of a addin.

Best regards
