Would be nice if Decals can be seen in Hidden Line Visual Style - that way they can be actually be used for logos , wall poster etc. and print as well.

Right now we can only see them in the "Realistic" or the Render Mode - very un-useful. So we have to use 2d image per View in order to print logos and stuff and create AGAIN decals if we want to see them in 3d - this is very inconsistent.

Second that. Decals should be visible in hidden line, shaded and consistent colour view modes. They would actually be useful then. We hardly ever use the realistic mode as it's basically, well, not very realistic.

Realistic mode is the least used feature for me. If I want realistic I'll do a quick cloud render and a bit of post production in photoshop or similar (I use Affinity Photo, and excellent image manipulation application at a fraction of the cost of PS)

Agreed. Decals are really useful and they would be most useful in every mode other than realistic. Realistic mode is the least useful presentation mode because it fails so miserably at trying to be "real". If I want real I'll render but 95% of the time I don't want real. I want to show in a graphical way a suggestion of what's possible rather than a convincing reality.

Once you've placed the decal on your model go to the plan view and make a new Elevation view detail of just the decal, rename the view to "Decal" or whatever you choose. Be sure to hide the Elevation bubble on your floor plan and anywhere else it shows up you don't want it to. Once you have done all that drag the decal elevation view you just made over the hidden line view where the decal is then double the decal view and change it to "Realistic" visual style. Done!

I appreciate that you have found a workaround that works for you but this
workaround is unacceptable to me because it makes me waste time.

There are no fundamental technical reasons why decals can only be displayed
in Realistic mode and not the other ones. I think The Factory should just
fix this.

cheers,
-tomek
And while we’re at it, I think that Autodesk should finally properly support image types with alpha channel. Revit’s current support for images with alpha (i.e. transparency) is appalling. I want full alpha support, not some lame early 20th century 1-bit pseudo-transparency. Sheeesh, get with the programme already Autodesk.

-t

This is ridiculous. Dragging views on top of each other to achieve this is akin to someone telling you that if you want bold face font in your word processor then all you have to do is cut your word out and then paste it as a picture with transparent background over the text and just nudge it until it looks bold. No one would use that word processor.

One of the reasons why I enjoy using Revit is because it's a powerful piece of software that often supports multiple workflows to achieve the same end goal. Versatility and generality is a good thing when implemented well and Revit strikes the balance between generality and utility quite well in my opinion.

But Revit is also full of these crazy workarounds. Kudos to people who are creative enough and patient to come up with these solutions but it is not reasonable in the first place. These basic functions should be available as first class citizens in the software. No workarounds or 3rd party add-ons should be necessary to provide basic functionality.

Hello neda,

The problem is that when you have a presentation, and the client have a solid logo, you want to show them the building with the correct design so they would be happy. In 3D, shaded view. With the image insertion you can not use the 3d tool. With decal you can't use shaded option.
