Many architects prefer to export detail drawings from Revit to CAD, detail in CAD , and then import as an overlay ontop of the Revit drawing as it is quicker for 2D drafting of details.

A Revit plugin which would automate this, ie. open the cad interface so you can draft over your revit details as an overlay would speed up things further.

Regards

Autocad should be completely included (merged) in Revit. It is so stupid to use so many additional softwares beside Revit, like Autocad, Civil 3D, Map 3D, Advance Steel, Infraworks, Navisworks. How's got the money to buy all that? And to what profit?

Exporting and importing from BIM to CAD and back to BIM is causing line faults and imprecision, as it is done using simple precision, not double precision.

More yet, many notions in CAD and BIM have similar names, yet different functions, e.g. groups, blocks, dynamic blocks, families, selection sets, etc. Other entities have no equivalent, like there is no polyline object in Revit.

Editing tools like Trim/Extend are grouped different, and like where is the Fillet command in Revit?

I hate the Array command in Revit, Array in Autocad is much better. I hate Align command in Autocad, i simply love the Align (and lock) command in Revit. And where is the Stretch command in Revit? It's either Move or Align, as per case.

For me, Autocad is like MS Paint, Revit is like Photoshop. It is simply counterproductive to use them both. We really need convergence to BIM.

I am only referring to the conflict with AutoCAD:

Have either of you considered using drafting views and detail components in Revit?

We find them more than sufficient for the schematics and details we create. Groups and Families work well in Revit and detail component families can be dynamic if you build them to be dynamic. Polylines don't exist but lines when chained act in the same way do they not?

Please correct me if I am wrong. I do appreciate the work involved in recreating your library of objects etc within Revit but if that is the only obstacle then I would argue you are holding yourself back.

Hi there, I created a tool that will help your AutoCAD elements integrate into Revit.

You can check out the youtube video here

It will take 2 apps:

1 for AutoCAD

1 for Revit

Feel free to reach out to discuss more.

Hope this helps.
