idea Make all unused viewports purgeable en Revit Ideas

Whenever inserting details or schedules from other projects you inevitable get a number of viewports along with them. These often cannot be removed, even though they are not in use anywhere on our sheets. I tried a method using Revit Lookup to find the ids of these viewports but it ended deleting a number of drafting views instead. So needless to say, not a great solution.

Please fix this, as on large projects the number of these can quickly become unmanageable and can often confuse other users as to which viewports to use. I often end up renaming them so they sort to the bottom but this is really a workaround.

This is a huge problem as you move from version to version and people invariably pull random content from old projects. While pulling info from old projects is less than ideal, it happens frequently. What's worse is that things like Schedules, which from a user standpoint do not have a Viewport associated with them, commonly are the culprits with no way to correct the problem efficiently. Workarounds like Lookup and a naming trick will solve some of these problems, they are both tedious and not for the faint of heart.

Please correct this, it really is a bug to be fixed, not a feature request.

Still an issue in 2020...

I now have 2 viewports that cannot be purged/removed. I have transferred the previous release's viewports from an upgraded template made project file. I have one of my previously unpurgeable viewports that was renamed and the stock new "Viewport1" that cannot be removed.

It's almost like Revit is locking them out b/c they are used as a default viewport to be assigned to newly placed views. But if that is true, why do I now have 2 viewports in this locked state...

I agree, this should be part of Revit. Until then, Guardian lets you purge unused viewport types. It will also let you rename or map from one to another and save that as a rule so you never have to worry about seeing them show up again across all of your projects.
