idea Don't Allow Dragging of Elements en Revit Ideas

Moving elements in the model should be intentional!

It's all too easy to start a window-selection and accidentally move model elements. I've seen entire linked models moved completely out of place. Some of these elements can be pinned, but the best solution would be to just get rid of the dragging feature. You can still use the Move command or nudge elements with the arrow keys.

That's what the Press and Drag icon in the lower right is for.

Check that icon & it will prevent accidental dragging.

Yes, but how do you make sure your interns always have that turned off. I'm just not sure why you would ever need to drag an element without selecting it first.

"how do you make sure your interns always have that turned off?"

- Configure it in the INI file when Revit is deployed.

- Teach them.

I have it turned off in our deployment too, but there are a few people who like it on. Options are good.

@Anonymous, like @dplumb_BWBR stated, you can update this in your Revit.ini across your firm. If you really wanted to, you could add it into the Revit.ini as an "update" item, so that the setting will persistently update with each boot of Revit, but that might be too much.

I also don't feel that there is a good reason for the Press and Drag option. If someone wants to move something, I think they can make the extra click to select it, then move it. However, I have noticed that most folks don't even know it's an option or know how to turn it off/on. If you adjust your Revit.ini to have it off by default, most of the time folks don't know any different and don't know how to turn it back on.

Dragging of Model vs Annotation elements should be a separate setting/toggle - we always use the drag feature for Annotation (and it's very useful), and so I'm used to finding "empty" areas to use when I need to window elements (to select). One of the few times I've turned it off is when I had a foundation plan w/ a bunch of tapered micropiles - it became nearly impossible to find "empty" areas.

It's not impossible to Drag if the option is turned off.

It's just ONE extra click.
