Automatic dimensioning for an entire view would save mountains of time This needs to be backed up by a method of referencing, such as reference planes inside families that have unique names so that dimensions can be referred to them when hosted in a project. This way it would be possible to specify, even in complex families what would be the reference line for an automatic dimension.
