idea Make existing elements "smart" to hosting multiple design options en Revit Ideas

An existing element is an existing element and doesn't belong in a design option.

However, due to the parent-child nature of face-cutting and hosted elements, we must copy-paste existing elements into multiple options to represent the multiplicity of perceived change.

I feel like this is bad for many perspectives, but particularly scheduling (duplicate instances) and data management, so it seems like this could be made better.

Additionally, if we have existing elements that are updated from new measured information while that element is instanced in multiple design options, we then have to edit it multiple times, which is excessive and creates the possibility for more error.

It would be better if the existing element - like an existing floor that is being cut by three different stair options for example - can be smart to all of the stair shaft design options that are cutting it by allow them to all exist in parallel to one another, despite their impossibility to manipulate the floor all at once. This would mean that the floor model element has some kind of "lookup" ability to see if it is being manipulated by elements belonging to design options, and then duplicates itself behind the scenes, only to officiate the change once the primary design option is accepted.

At least for the stair issue, if they fix the problem with shaft openings not being phaseable, that might help. http://forums.autodesk.com/t5/revit-ideas/ability-to-phase-wall-openings-demolishing-in-new-phase/idi-p/6326111
