    <description>&lt;P&gt;Hello,&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;&amp;nbsp;&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;I have a question regarding the position of the tool z-axis when using a 4-axis simultaneous surfacemill feature.&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;&amp;nbsp;&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;What I know and understand is how the index angle and the B angle under Tool Axis/Use rotary X tool influences the z-axis orientation.&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;&amp;nbsp;&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;However what I do not understand is how the program decides where to put the z-axis, especially with regards to the z-start and z-end attributes in the milling operations. The location of the z=0 point seems completely arbitrary to me... In case I wasn't clear enough, I believe phrasing it in mathematical terms is easier to understand:&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;&amp;nbsp;&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;I am picturing the tool z-axis as a parametric equation of a line (x,y,z) = (x0,y0,z0) + (dx,dy,dz)*t, where&amp;nbsp;(x,y,z) and (x0,y0,z0) are vectors in 3D space,&amp;nbsp;(dx,dy,dz) is a directional vector and t is a scalar. When I say I "understand the z-axis orientation", I am trying to say that I understand how FeatureCAM calculates the&amp;nbsp;(dx,dy,dz) vector from the index angle and the B angle. Now, I am confused by how FeatureCAM decides how to calculate&amp;nbsp;(x0,y0,z0) (I am imagining this vector to be the point z=0). This vector neither coincides with any origin, nor is it tangential to any surface or seems to follow any logic really.&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;&amp;nbsp;&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;I am asking this question, because I would like to automatically calculate optimal values for z-start and z-end in a 4-axis simultaneous surfacemill feature. So far, I would have to check in the graphical user-interface how z-start and z-end influence the start and end point, because again I don't see how FeatureCAM calculates the z-axis.&lt;/P&gt;</description>
