topic Network based content in Fabrication CADmep Forum

I'm looking at planning for the future use of Fabrication modeling at my company, and as the CAD/BIM Manager I like to have all my content centralized on the network so everybody is working with the same content. I cant seem to find how to make Revit look to a network location for 'Fabrication Configurations'. Ive looked in Options and in the Revit.ini file. I've downloaded the Imperial and Metric sample configurations from Autodesk and they install fine on my PC, but with 100 engineers, I certainly dont want to go around installing individual content packs onto each PC.

How is everybody else doing this? I cant be the only person with this question...

Cheers!

Dustin

Revit will pull whatever database (doesnt matter location) that has a GUID assigned to it. We have our database on the network.. Remember in order to setup and assign a GUID to a database you will need to have at least 1 seat of Fabrication CADmep. Nothing will need to be set in the Revit.ini file.

Thanks Nathan,

I guess you've somewhat answered my question going somewhat the long way around. So please let me just make sure I'm understanding this correctly.

There is no default pathing I can do to my Revit installation to 'wait for' a potential Fabrication database that may some day arrive?

Can Fabrication CADmep create a network deployment kit similar to other Autodesk programs where content can be centrally located and that all the 'client PCs' that receive the software deployment will then point to the network based central content?

Cheers!

Here is a link showing how to config fabrication for deployment. https://knowledge.autodesk.com/support/fabrication-products/learn-explore/caas/video/youtube/watch-v-5HFgxNiLs4Y.html.

For anybody reading this post, the video he mentions shows that content databases can be put onto the network, and network deployments can be created, but each client installation must be individually and manually pointed to the network content.

Also, it didn't mention anything about the Revit side of things, only the AutoCAD-based software/plugin.
