Hi,

I'm looking for some alternative suggestions to my current workflow with iLogic. Using Vault, I copy design a master file (i.e. M00001.iam) and place a job unique prefix before it and all it's sub-parts (i.e. X0001-M00001.iam).

To create different configurations I use the iLogic Component.Replace command many times, so for this to work I need a way of including all possible design files in the copy design. So far I have achieved this by linking these files to my top level model through its parameters.

This causes a few issues. (Some may not appear too problematic but make our standard work practices difficult)

All linked files check in and out (not just the ones being used in the model).

Errors appear through the design doctor on files that are linked but not in model.

Linked files appear in the 'Where Used' Vault tab when not in the model/BOM.

If anyone can suggest alternatives to the linked files route I'd be grateful.

Thanks,

Hi @Anonymous

I ended up ditching Vault copy design and using iLogic Copy Design tool (see link below). This way we configure the model, save it, then copy it. This means only the files that are required are copied.

https://knowledge.autodesk.com/support/inventor-products/getting-started/caas/screencast/Main/Details/4292f9b9-6954-4f1c-b996-dff071ee03fc.html

It has its drawbacks, but it works for us because we only prefix part numbers and don't require the replace function Vault has.

Hope this helps you.
