Difference in colour when saving as .exr and .jpg.

Hi everyone.

I'm fairly new to 3ds max, I've been using Modo in the office for a few years and we have just made the switch. I'm used to rendering out to .exr files but my colleague uses jpeg. I am keen to use .exr, not jpg, however we can't seem to be able to get the same image when opened in photoshop. I've attached the images of the exr (left) and jpg (right). Can anyone tell me why there is such a difference? The jpeg looks correct to the render window, so we are obviously doing something wrong with the exr. There doesn't seem to be enough of a difference to be the gamma, it's more of a weird colour tint/ saturation.exr_jpg_comparison.jpg

Any suggestions welcome, thankyou.
